Abstract
Description
The BCG vaccine, a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis, was first used in humans in 19211. BCG vaccination was introduced in South Africa in 1973 and is given intradermally at birth using the Danish BCG strain2. There are several strains of the vaccine, which have different microbiological properties.
